Fauzan Omar’s mixed media works were the focus at 12 in May 2008 drawing attention to the artist’s visionary mixed media works that first garnered attention in the early nineties.
Exhibits at 12’s overview included rare works by the artist, including his seminal Luminosity series from the early nineties. Fauzan’s latest works were also present and these rhapsodies on nature encompassed multi-paneled word-carvings and paintings that reiterated the artist’s penchant for tactile, mixed media works.
This range of artworks at 12 offered audiences the rare treat of viewing Fauzan’s artworks in a chronological fashion, thereby affording glimpses of changes within the artist’s approach to materials and style.
A bilingual exhibition catalogue accompanied the overview and featured essays by Safrizal Shahir, Hasnul Jamal Saidon, and Himanshu Bhatt.
Fauzan Omar: An Overview was another attempt by 12’s curatorial team to resurrect pivotal Malaysian artists and reintroduce their seminal bodies of work to both familiar and fresh audiences.
