Fauzan Omar, who received his art education from UiTM and Maryland Institute College of Arts (MICA) Baltimore Maryland, U.S.A. can be considered as one the most important modern artists in Malaysia today. This is due to his art creations, especially paintings, which always try to challenge and redefine this genre in the context of modern era. In the context of modern painting, his artworks can be categorized in the realm of Neo Formalist. In regards to Neo Formalist, tendency can also be taken as a continuation of modern painting tradition in Malaysia since the early 1970s period.
This 7th solo exhibition by Fauzan Omar, as suggested by its title, features a selective survey of his important paintings, throughout his entire artistic career. By this exhibition one will be able to see the development and changes of styles and approaches of painting by Fauzan Omar. From the Layer Series, which the artist started to workout in 1979, until the later series like Certificate of Fitness, Underwater, Reconstruction and Rejuvenation in 1990s and 2000, one can see significant changes in the aspect of painting approaches, material explorations and painting formats.
