The exhibition brings together a selection of works by the contemporary Malaysian art collective comprising Ahmad Fuad Osman, Ahmad Syukri Mohamed, Bayu Utomo Radjikin, Hamir Soib@Mohamed and Masnoor Ramli Mahmud. MATAHATI – For Your Pleasure presents works from the artists’ early development through to recent explorations in their practice, reflecting upon their insights and study of concerns of identity, representation, humanity, community, social responsibility and religion.
At the same time it acknowledges their contribution to Malaysian aesthetics. In assembling these works together, the exhibition highlights works of particular significance for their creators as a means to understand and appreciate their perspectives and practice living and working in contemporary Malaysia. Having first met University Teknologi MARA (Uitm) in 1987, the collective has since become a familiar name in the Malaysian art scene through their activities and practice individually as well as together. Organised by GALERI PERTONAS, this exhibition spans four different venues: GALERI PETRONAS, NOM (HOUSE OF MATAHATI), The Annexe Gallery and 12 Art Space Gallery.
