Ahmad Fuad Osman “ Dislocated”
Organised by 12 (Art Space Gallery),
Site: 3rd Floor of City Square Centre, Kuala Lumpur
25th January – 25th February 2007

“Dislocated” represents the result of Ahmad Fuad’s sojourns outside Malaysia. The exhibition features his recent artworks produced during and after two residency programs in Vermont USA and Goyang, South Korea. Fuad’s experience and artworks epitomize cross-cultural imperatives of international residency programs in the matrix of regional contemporary art practice. “Dislocated” is specifically a result of Ahmad Fuad’s encounter with two different ‘host’ environments. Consequently, the exhibition embodies two distinctive moods – tranquility in regards to his Vermont’s experience, in contrast to the ‘incongruity’ of Goyang.

Archive | Eng Hwee Chu & Tan Chin Kuan
12 (Art Space Gallery), Kuala Lumpur
27th July – 15th September 2008

ARCHIVE: ENG HWEE CHU & TAN CHIN KUAN is our first edition of ARCHIVE, in which the overall context is very simply inspired by the documents that we have collected. Both these artists have tremendous high profiles since late 1980s and 1990s. Their visuals embark massively on the critical values of the art scene, and for their contribution to the history of contemporary art in Malaysia, they have both received acclaims and awards in high ranking art exhibitions and competitions of that time, both in and out of Malaysia.

12 has gathered, organized and put together a whole body of documents and records, slides, photographs that are related to their individual artistic activities fro various sources. Yet, the main source of information was from the artists themselves, and indeed some of the most valuable evidence and input were the ones that inadvertently, fluidly and unintentionally, that came from various stages of our casual conversations with them.

Ahmad Zuraimi Abdul Rahim “Disfigured”
17th June – 30th June 2006
Art Space Gallery, City Square Centre, Kuala Lumpur

In this exhibition, Zuraimi’s explores the probabilities of confrontational attributes between man’s controversial thinking and his God-given anatomy. He creates a character. This time his character “embraces imperfection”, thereby upholding a metaphorical merger through contrast, invoking an excellent avenue to invent discordance, to act as a link between extremes. A statement about differences. Feelings of beauty surge from within; the outer frame becomes more fictional as perfection faces the possibilities of imminent disfigurement. Can these two
dimensions describe the other in terms of similarity and compatibility? Is the meaning of ‘disfigured’ not a tender perfection?
“Disfigured” visualizes ones curiosity and constant obsession of creative process as well as reviving the value and beauty of the existing art form.

Raduan Man “ I Painted the Blue Frog”
19th June – 10th July 2004
Art Space Gallery, City Square Centre, Kuala Lumpur

Aptly titled “I Printed The Blue Frog”, this exhibition comprises artwork that illustrates clearly what is mythical and intangible which is otherwise difficult for the audience to observe and appreciate.

Raduan’s latest artwork mainly focuses on his perception of the different degrees of strength and power of animals. His chosen animals – The Frog, the Tiger, the Rooster, the Bull, the Horse and the Dragon are carved to capture their distinctive forms to suit the elemental strength and power of the respective animal subject matters.

E.H.Chee “Birth of the Flow”
23rd October - 13th November 2004
Art Space Gallery, City Square Centre, Kuala Lumpur

Daud Abdul Rahim “Visual Invocation: A Reflection of Recent Work”
21st August – 11th September 2004
Art Space Gallery, City Square Centre, Kuala Lumpur

This exhibition comprises 22 artworks that include works on paper and on canvas. Daud’s artworks echo a sentiment towards light, forms, and shadow. They reflect personal reading of the continuum of time and space; of what is real and what is artificial; of what is the source and what is the reflection or shadows.
